The Kindness of Strangers

Helping Our Senior Citizen Community

We had a need and you stepped up to fill it!  Thank you to the anonymous donor who provided these walking aids to our seniors who were in need of dire assistance.  They were very appreciative of the kindness of strangers and ready to put their donations to use.  If you have new or gently used items that you would like to donate to help our senior community, please contact Lucy Gonzalez at 713-923-2316.

Giving Back to the Community

Candombe Houston Toy Donation

For the second year in a row Candombe Houston has hosted a Christmas toy drive to benefit Community Family Centers. We are grateful for their generosity and thank them for bringing Christmas joy to the children of the East End Community.

"Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.

You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in."   Unknown

We love this community and we love our volunteers!

Every day wonderful people go out of their way to lend a helping hand here at CFC.   They help manage our workflow in the business office, they help us empower through education, they help us feed our neighbors in need and they help us restore hope.  They do these things with great love and ask nothing in return.

Our volunteers form part of our extraordinary team and enable us to serve and improve this great community. We are changing lives every single day – won’t you join us?  No amount of time is too little and there are always ways to help.  You can make a difference right here in the East End that may have a far reaching impact.  Call us at 713-923-2316 or visit our website to help us make a difference.

Los Ninos Early Childhood Montessori

Earns National NAEYC Accrediation &

Recognized by Texas Rising Star

Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program has earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)—the world's largest organization working on behalf of young children.

NAEYC Accreditation is a rigorous and transformative quality-improvement system that uses a set of 10 research-based standards to collaborate with early education programs to recognize and drive quality-improvement in high-quality early learning environments. “We are so excited to be recognized as a high-quality early learning program.  We’re ready for the task as we continue to serve the children and families in the Greater East End Area.  We are committed to excellence in early childhood Montessori education and are extremely proud to join the Academy” said Brittny Mandarino, Director of Early Childhood Education at Community Family Centers.

As part of Community Family Centers, Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program helps break the cycle of poverty by providing high-quality low-cost care and education to young children developing and strengthening the life, education, and literacy skills of the entire family.  The mission of Los Niños Montessori is to provide high-quality, bilingual Montessori education and holistic support to children and their families.

To earn NAEYC Accreditation, Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program went through an extensive self-study and quality-improvement process, followed by an on-site visit by NAEYC Assessors to verify and ensure that the program met each of the ten program standards, and hundreds of corresponding individual criteria. NAEYC-accredited programs are always prepared for unannounced quality-assurance visits during their accreditation term, which lasts for five years.

In the 30 years since NAEYC Accreditation was established, it has become a widely recognized sign of high-quality early childhood education. More than 7,000 programs are currently accredited by NAEYC—less than 10 percent of all child care centers, preschools, and kindergartens nationally achieve this recognition.

“NAEYC-Accredited programs bring our definitions of excellence for early childhood education to life each day,” said Kristen Johnson, senior director of Early Learning Program Accreditation at NAEYC. “Earning NAEYC Accreditation makes Los Niños Montessori an exemplar of good practice for families and the entire community.”

For more information about NAEYC Accreditation, visit the NAEYC website.

Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program has also been recognized as a certified 4 – Star Level Texas Rising Star Center! Texas Rising Star is a quality rating and improvement system for Texas early childhood programs.  For more information, visit the Texas Rising Star website

Thank you to Brittny Mandarino, CFC’s Director of Early Childhood, for her expertise and dedication to the Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program and commitment to earning both of these recognitions for our Program.

Special Thanks to CoreNet!

Book Reading with Author of "My Santa"

In December, Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program welcomed CoreNet and guests for a special reading of “My Santa”, a new children’s book about the story of Christmas. Brandi McDonald Sikes, the author, joined us and gifted all students and staff with a keepsake Nutcracker doll and a signed copy of the book.  We enjoyed the singing of carols and the sweet treats shared at snack time.  Thank you, CoreNet!
